Commanding officer of Indian frigate Talwar Rahul Parmar was fired because his subordinate officer died, reported NDTV on Jan 12.
Allegedly, the commander ordered young officers to jump from the ship into the sea to test their bravery and ability to act in critical situations. One of them – second lieutenant – drowned.
The tragedy happened on Dec 29, 2011 off the state of Gujarat.
The ship was on patrol and recently took part in anti-piracy campaign. Investigation panel carried out an inquiry into the incident and demanded Capt Parmar to vacate his position.

Talwar (hull number F40) was built in Russia and commissioned into Indian Navy in 2003.
