Newest American Carrier Suffered Fire

09.06.2012 A fire happened to the US Navy's newest carrier USS George Bush moored at Naval Station Norfolk, reports Lenta.ru.

The fire occurred on June 6 at 10:30 (local time) in one of living cabins; no one was there at the moment. The fire was promptly extinguished with no sufferers. As for US Navy spokesmen, the damage is minimal; cause of fire is being investigated.

According to The Daily Press, USS George Bush was supposed to leave Norfolk for training cruise on June 7, but the departure was postponed due to reasons not related to the fire.

The tenth and the last Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS George Bush (CVN-77) was laid down in 2003 and commissioned in 2009. The carrier was named after 41-st US President George Bush Sr.

Fire also happened onboard nuclear submarine USS Miami in Maine on May 23, 2012. Seven men suffered during the extinguishing operation, they were firefighters and crewmen. According to preliminary assessment, the damage was somewhat $400 mln. As was reported on June 6, the fire occurred because of short circuit in a vacuum cleaner.
