American destroyer USS James E. Williams came to rescue of Iranian vessel broken into flame in the Gulf of Oman, reports online newspaper Dni.Ru. Twelve men including two citizens of Pakistan were evacuated from the distressed ship.
All sufferers are getting appropriate medical care and waiting for transfer to aircraft carrier USS
Enterprise, reports
ITAR-TASS citing a US Navy's spokesman. After that, rescued sailors will be delivered to their homeland.
It is not the first time American ships saved distressed Iranian sailors. For one, destroyer USS
Kidd in Jan 2012 released crewmen of Iranian fishing schooner captured and held hostages by Somali pirates for 40 days. Shortly before that, Tehran notified Washington about inadmissibility of military presence off Iranian coast.
