Russian naval servicemen imposed a strong and positive impression upon US Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral Gary Roughead. According to the admiral, he liked their openness and was pleased much to have many common views on fleet development, said Roughead during an exclusive interview to Central Navy Portal.
The head of US Navy Admiral Gary Roughead paid an official visit to Russia in Apr 14-18, 2011. This was the first visit of US CNO to Russia within the last 15 years. In Moscow the American admiral met with his counterpart Admiral V. Vysotsky and General N. Makarov, Chief of Russia's General Staff. Roughead visited Northern Fleet and boarded nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky and nuclear submarine Nizhny Novgorod. The visit was finished in St. Petersburg where the delegation paid a call at the Kuznetsov Naval Academy and museum cruiser Avrora; at the Peter and Paul's Fortress G. Roughead himself had an opportunity to carry out midday cannon shot.
Despite the quite eventful program and extremely tight schedule, Admiral Roughead agreed to meet with editor-in-chief of Central Navy Portal and answer some questions in a brief 20-minute interview.
