Jennifer Figge, a U.S. athlete became the first woman to swim across the Atlantic Ocean, the Associated Press reported on February 8.

Figge began her adventure in Cape Verde in the western coast of Africa on January 18 and covered 3,380 kilometers to Trinidad. She plans to swim from here to the British Virgin Islands, where she will end her journey at the end of February.

Figge left a yacht every morning with an entourage and spent hours in the water. Her longest swim lasted 8 hours, while the shortest lasted just 21 minutes.

French swimmer Benoit Leconte was the first man to swim the Atlantic Ocean. It took him 73 days to swim from the state of Massachusetts to France, covering 6,400 kilometers.
