American company to deliver 10 guard boats for Iraqi Navy
30.09.2009 American shipbuilding company Swiftships Shipbuilders got a $181 mln contract for development and producing 9 guard boats for Iraqi Navy, says Defense Industry Daily.
The agreement will be realized under the Foreign Military Sales Program. It was previously planned that Iraqi Navy would receive up to 15 boats for sea patrolling at the distance about 370 km off the coast.
Patrol boat powered with Swiftships Shipbuilders engine will be 35 m long and armed with six 30-mm guns. The boat's crew will be eight seamen and four officers. Exact terms of the contract realization are uncertain.
