French subs will get antitorpedo systems
				06.10.2009

French concern DCNS won the delivery contract of ten Nemesis antitorpedo systems for French Navy submarines. That was said by Defense News on Oct 5 referring to anonymous official representative of the company.
Corresponding agreement was signed between DCNS company and French MoD early September, although this information has not been divulged before.
The contract provides delivery and installation of Nemesis system on four submarines armed with nuclear ballistic missiles, and also on six common attack submarines. Cost of works makes "several million" euro, as says the source of Defense News.
Operating principle of Nemesis systems, as for DCNS, lies in blackout of torpedo sensors or launch traps counteracting light and heavy weapons. New systems replace analogue old Dilsat systems which is used against torpedoes designed in 1970-ies.
It must be noted that French Navy currently has three Le Triomphant-type nuclear submarines. One more analogue submarine is to be commissioned in 2010. Intercontinental ballistic missiles M45 capable to defeat targets on distance up to 8 000-9 000 km are used as primary armament of those submarines.
