South Korean Navy plans to achieve six Aegis KDX-3A destroyers

21.10.2009
South Korean Navy gave a requisition to push construction of domestic Aegis destroyers in 2019 which is a step to protect coast from DPRK, said South Korean Navy spokesman to Jane's on Oct 14.

Korean Navy was expected to procure six ships, although the spokesman said there were no official statements about this number. Displacement of destroyers called KDX-3A will be 5 600 tonnes, he added.

"We have not agreed in exact number of vessels we need", he said. "But we intend to increase our operational potentiality. Hopefully, our plans will be approved and we will have Aegis destroyers in 10 years".
