Ukrainian corvette Ternopil patrols Mediterranean

Ukrainian corvette Ternopil led by Capt 3 rank Grigory Breev has been placed under operational command of Maritime Component of JCSOUTH and under NATO flag within permanent naval grouping started patrolling Mediterranean Sea under NATO Operation Active Endeavour.

During patrols with Greek frigate Salamis, Ukrainian crew will conduct examination and search operations upon civil vessels under NATO standards. Information gathered by Ukrainian mariners will be sent to Maritime Operations Center Naples and to NATO Shipping Center Northwood (United Kingdom), and considered while charting overall navigation picture of Mediterranean Sea.

Besides, Ukrainian crew will perform other naval tactical procedures during first patrol; in particular, enhancing general (complex) security of the ship, SR drill on man overboard rescue, submarine surveillance, night signaling and tactical maneuvering with the Greek ship.

The task unit including corvette Ternopil will return at Greek naval base Souda Bay in a few days for refueling and food replenishment.
