K-461 Volk is a Project 971 Schuka-B 3rd generation nuclear-powered attack submarine. She represents the main project of Russian attack submarines.

The sub was laid down on November 14, 1987 at Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk; launched on June 11, 1991; obtained the name of Volk on June 25, 1991; commissioned on February 11, 1992.MILESTONES
In 1993 the sub participated in search operation.In fall 1993 and winter 1994 she carried out patrol.
In winter 1994-1995 she was deployed in the Mediterranean. As a result of patrol, the submarine commander A.V. Burilichev was titled the Hero of the Russian Federation.
On January 29, 2000 the wave washed two sailors overboard who were repairing failure outside. It was impossible to save them due to full gale.
