B-239 Karp is a Project 945 Barracuda nuclear-powered submarine.

REGISTRATION

Northern Fleet, Vidyaevo

CONSTRUCTION

Project developer is Lazurit Design Bureau. Manufacturer is Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard. The submarine was laid down on July 20, 1979 and launched on July 29, 1983.

MILESTONES

B-239 started service in 1984 under the codename of K-239. Through her service in Northern Fleet's constant readiness force, the sub was regularly involved in tactical exercises. In 1990, the submarine was declared the Northern Fleet's best ship. In 1992, she was reclassified into ballistic missile submarine and renamed into B-239. In 1993, the submarine obtained the name of Karp.

The submarine was decommissioned on May 30, 1998. Further fate of the sub is still unclear. No information of dismantling leaked to the press. Supposedly, the sub is moored in Severodvinsk.

Nuclear reactor OK-650A (180 MW), 4 steam generators, 2 turbogenerators, 2 groups of storage batteries, 2 x 750-hp diesel generators DG-300 with 10-days fuel reserve, 1 main propeller screw, 2 x 370-kW low-speed engines, 2 low-speed screws.

ARMAMENT

Two 650-mm torpedo tubes, four 533-mm torpedo tubes, 40 torpedoes and rocket torpedoes, 8 SAM system Igla launchers.
