KS-129 Orenburg


KS-129 Orenburg is a Project 09786 special purpose large size nuclear-powered submarine.

CONSTRUCTION

The submarine was laid down on April 9, 1979 at Sevmash shipyard (Severodvinsk) under the name of K-129 as a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine; launched on April 15, 1981; commissioned into Northern Fleet on November 30, 1981. The sub was renamed into KS-129 on March 22, 1996. In 2004 she inherited the name of Orenburg from special purpose nuclear-powered submarine BS-411.

MILESTONES

On June 26, 1989 the sub suffered breakdown of main propulsion plant.

Since 1989 till 1991 the sub had been under overhaul in Severodvinsk.

In 1994-2002 the sub was modernized under Project 09786.
