Central Navy Portal (CNP) is only one-year younger than the world's second largest non-English-language web portal Yandex and age mate to Russian national mail service mail.ru. Twelve years in RuNet which emerged early 90-ies is substantial age. However, until 2007 CNP looked absolutely different and resembled a common webpage about the Navy. Everything has changed in recent years when the 1st crew put hands to development of CNP.
What have we achieved and are working on?
1. Today we are the most visited website about Russian Navy. About 200,000 people monthly open pages of Central Navy Portal.
2. Developing RusNavy.com, an English version of the portal, we have become the representative of Russian Navy among English-speaking media. Nowadays Americans, Europeans, Asians and those hundreds of visitors from other regions of the world read news of Russian Navy on RusNavy.com every day and new articles – no less than once a week.
3. We have called together acting and retired servicemen, veterans, their relatives in communities on forums and blogs. These thousands of people unindifferent to the Navy have left over 80,000 postings in more than 2,600 topics. Presently, 114 users have their own blogs; dozens of them post new entries at least once a week.
4. To help sailors and adherers maintain contacts with each other in every part of the world, we created the first naval social network Na Flote (On Board). At present, over 1,000 people chat in 187 groups of the network; several thousands stay online.
5. We exert every effort to be the main source of all Navy's news for you. In 2009 first journalists of CNP began to tell you about events happen in Russian and other navies which are not published by other media sources. Information service of Ukrainian Navy mails exclusive press-releases to CNP editors as well. In the nearest years we will work for you to read real-time and authentic news and official announcements every day.
6. To let you know where in World Ocean Russian warships are currently and were previously deployed, we created a Russian Navy's Presence Map. It is planned to open a new column with current Reuters' data about vessels captured by pirates.
7. We develop a directory of business organizations related to the Navy and military industry. Presently, it contains information about more than 650 companies. Businessmen can easily find any needed product, service or tell about themselves there.
8. We want oncoming generation to be interested in the Navy so we laid the foundation of Young Sailor's Club by creating a special section on CNP. Perhaps, those fascinating answers given by the 2nd crew to kids' whys and wherefores will be soon published as a book.
9. We support charity and other socially useful initiatives; for instance, we assist to search relatives of S-2 sub's died crewmembers arranged by St. Petersburg Submariners' Club. Recently, the club has become our partner.
10. Having done this work, CNP was rated in RuNet Award 2008 Top 10 in "State and Society" nomination. The trophy was established by the Federal Agency for Print and Mass Media for achievements in the area of information technologies and electronic communications. That time we failed to win it but there are so many grounds for work and hope!
11. What proves the foregoing is that recently we moved to another technical office with greater number of servers. CNP webpages open instantly any time of day and night; you bet you're always welcomed on board!
Thanks a lot!
