Russia, NATO to cooperate in military technical area

02.06.2010 Military technical cooperation between Russia and NATO can be substantially expanded; even development of a transport aircraft and a heavy helicopter on the basis of Russian hardware and under NATO standards is possible, reports RIA Novosti citing Vyacheslav Dzirkaln, deputy director of Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation (FSMTC).

According to the official, Russia and NATO hold consultations about regulatory documents for military technical cooperation. So far, Russia negotiates separately with each NATO country, said Dzirkaln. Trends for further military technical cooperation are primarily connected with escalation of anti-terror efforts. Last year Russian delegation headed by Mikhail Dmitriev, director of FSMTC visited NATO headquarters in Brussels. Among other delegates were Sergei Chemezov, the head of Rostehnologii and Anatoly Isaikin, director of Rosoboronexport.

Vyacheslav Dzirkaln supposed that consequently certain trends for cooperation in joint arms development would be found both with particular NATO members and with the Alliance in general.
