According to USC representative Igor Ryabov, it was an initiative of Korean party.
STX is interested in production setup of diesel engines for small and intermediate vessels, including liquefied gas carriers and chemical carriers at new production site in Kronshtadt, informed
RBK daily. Perhaps, the Korean company would take part in financing of operations on the Russian shipyard transfer, said the source in USC.
As early as June, 2010 USC and city administration of St. Petersburg signed agreement on stagewise transfer of JSC
Admiralteyskie Verfi from Novo-Admiralteysky Island to Kronshtadt. According to preliminary appraisal, the project will be implemented within the next 6-8 years and cost about 20 bln RUR.
Transfer of the yard to Kronshtadt will be carried out in three steps. At the first one a new bridge will be constructed in St. Petersburg connecting Vasilievsky and Novo-Admiralteisky islands; the construction is to be launched in 2011. Approximate term of the bridge-building is 2 years. At the second and third stages the rest of the yard's capacities will be transferred to Kronshtadt. On the 17 ha released lands it is possible to build about 200,000 sq meters realty. Supposedly, USC will obtain 100 ha from St. Petersburg on Kotlin Island at knockdown cost.
