US Navy will conduct joint exercise in the Black Sea in 2011 to expand its presence in this region, reports Georgian TV channel Rustavi2 referring to Admiral James Stavridis, Commander, U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

As for the admiral, naval forces of 14 countries will participate in the exercise apart from the US. Enlargement of America's operational area in the Black Sea region is aimed to train partner navies for peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan.

Recall that Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, and Georgia are the only states having access to the Black Sea.
