23.04.2011
Russian-made antiship cruise missile Yakhont launched by Indonesian frigate Oswald Siahaan successfully hit the target at the range of 250 km during national naval exercise, reported Indonesian news agencies on Apr 21.
Indonesian Navy has conducted effective launch of Russian-made missile Yakhont and hit an old ship which was a sea target, reported Admiral Iskandar Sitompul at the press conference on board the Indonesian Navy's flagship. According to him, the weapon was successfully tested, and the national navy has achieved valuable practical experience.
According to some sources, it was initially planned to demonstrate the destroyed target to naval commanders and press, but due to bad weather it was decided not to send helicopters. Media had to content only with the missile's launch and emotions of Oswald Siahaan's crew.
