Indonesian Navy to Purchase 54 Russian BMP-3F Amphibious Vehicles 27.01.2012

Indonesian Navy's Chief of Naval Staff ADM Soeparno told about plans of national navy development for nearest years and procurements for 2012, reports Koran Jakarta.

According to the admiral, the fleet development program would finish in 2014. Then Indonesian Navy will develop in accordance with priorities stated in Navy Strategic Plan till 2024.

In 2012, Indonesian marine corps plans to start forming of a new division Pasmar-3 in Sorong, West Papua Province in addition to analogous units Pasmar-1 in Surabaya and Pasmar-2 in Jakarta. Presently, there is one marine battalion deployed in Papua (New Guinea Island) which is to be enlarged up to brigade and then to division.

Indonesian Navy's top officers convened early in 2012 and discussed some of basic programs including arms procurement issues.

In particular, Indonesian marines will receive 54 new Russian infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3F for new units in Papua; 34 of them will be purchased in the current year.
