S Korea to place radars on the border with DPRK


S Korea to place radars on the border with DPRK 29.01.2010
South Korean armed forces intend to deploy radars next to sea border with DPRK in the Yellow Sea; the radars are capable to detect positions of N Korean artillery systems. That was reported upon results of meeting between S Korean defense minister Kim Tae-young and lawmakers from permanent defense committee.

TPQ-type radars capable to detect artillery emplacements will be deployed on islands Baengnyeongdo and Yeonpyeong situated to the south of western border. The radars track artillery shells and determine their launch sites. Radars of this type were previously deployed at those regions due to tension progressed at Korean peninsula, informs ITAR-TASS.
