International forum of young sailors is held in Novgorod

International forum of young sailors will take place in Veliky Novgorod on Thursday; the forum will host naval cadets and young sailors from Russia, the UK, Canada, the U.S., Hong Kong, and Sweden, reported RIA Novosti referring to a representative of Novgorod branch of Young Sailors' Club (YSC) which initiated the forum.
"Supposedly, the greater part of participants will arrive to Veliky Novgorod from St. Petersburg by YSC training motorship named Gospodin Veliky Novgorog on Thursday at 10 am (Moscow time); after that the opening ceremony will be held on quayside", said the interviewee.
Russians and foreign guests will visit unique places of interest located at Novgorod land and take master-classes on making traditional Novgorod souvenirs.
In the same day at 8 pm a meeting will be held in honor of SSN Kursk crewmen died in the Barents Sea on Aug 12, 2000.
On Friday naval cadets and young sailors will start a cruise to Lake Ilmen on YSC vessels.
Among various activities to be held in Lake Ilmen on Saturday will be a sloop regatta in honor of Vitaly Kuznetsov, electrical engineer of SSN Kursk and native of Novgorod.
The participants are about to conduct a sloop cruise around Lake Ilmen on Sunday. They will return to Veliky Novgorod on Monday.
On Tuesday naval cadets and young sailors will head for St. Petersburg via rivers of Volkhov, Ladoga, and Neva.
Next day in St. Petersburg the participants plan to summarize the forum.
It will be the sixth international forum of young sailors. This year it is devoted to 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Novgorod branch of the Young Sailors' Club is the biggest in Russia. Hundreds of ship boys study in the Club. It possesses ships Mikhail Balaban, Gospodin Veliky Novgorod, and Ilmera, and several sloops.
During every shipping season young sailors from Novgorod conduct about 10 long cruises.
