An exercise was started at Northern Fleet (NF) under the general superintendence of Vice Admiral Nikolai Maksimov, NF Commander. That is a core activity in the fleet's summer training period; it will last till Aug 31.

Northern Fleet kicks off exercise

One of the exercise's main objectives is to practice coordination between the fleet's forces and other branches of the armed forces while holding joint combat operations.
The exercise includes such episodes as ships' maneuvers with missile, torpedo, and artillery firings; search and nominal destruction of submarines; landing operation; repelling of aerial attacks.
Apart from surface ships, submarines, naval aviation, and coastal troops of Northern Fleet, the exercise will be attended by Russian Army and Air Force units.
