Historical and cultural expertise is required to acknowledge lightship Irbensky as an object of cultural heritage, said deputy chairman of the Committee on State Control, Use and Protection of Memorials (CSCUPM) Alexei Razumov replying the request of Lomonosov town administration.

Lightship Irbensky is tendered by defense ministry as 403 tons of scrap metal. Presently, the vessel stays at Leningrad Naval Base quay in Lomonosov.

City budget of St. Petersburg for 2011 and 2012 does not provide expenditures for expertise of that lightship, so Mr. Razumov recommended Lomonosov town administration to tie contract with an expert and submit results of the expertise for consideration of CSCUPM.

One of the request's authors communist Vladimir Zhuravlev told to the Central Navy Portal that he was about to submit for discussion an idea to create a ship equipment museum in Oranienbaum and to save the lightship.
