BSF needs larger and faster renovation – Admiral Kasatonov 30.08.2010

Black Sea Fleet (BSF) needs larger and faster renovation than it is planned, the BSF ex-commander Admiral Igor Kasatonov said.

"It is well known that BSF will be reinforced with new ships and subs. But the renewal should be carried out more promptly and actively. Obviously, two or three frigates which may soon join the fleet will not substantially increase its combat capabilities, although their commission will help to preserve the BSF style of training, education, and seafaring", he said.

"Unfortunately, for the moment we don't have a distinct development strategy of our Navy. Meanwhile, this century is the age of the World Ocean. Greatest powers direct eyes to the Ocean, both to its vastness and continental shelf. Navies rapidly develop. And Russia apparently lags", stated Kasatonov.
