Tender for Mistral carriers to be issued in Sept
20.09.2010
Russian Navy will issue a tender for building and procurement of new helicopter carriers late Sept, reports RIA Novosti referring to a top-ranking source in defense industry.
"It is planned that a tender for procurement of newest Mistral class helicopter carriers will be issued in the nearest future. Most probably, that will happen in the end of September or early October", said the interviewee.
At present, defense experts and international lawyers complete preparing all appropriate documents.
As it was previously reported, both foreign and Russian shipbuilding companies will be welcome to participate in the tender.
Currently, Russia holds negotiations with France seeking to purchase four Mistral class helicopter carriers. Moscow insists that only first two ships must be built by French shipyards while construction of the third and the fourth ships should be completely located in Russia.
Multipurpose helicopter carrier Mistral has displacement of 21,000 tons, extreme hull length of 210 meters, and max speed over 18 knots. Fuel range is up to 20,000 nautical miles. Crew is 160, plus up to 450 marines. Air group consists of 16 helicopters, six of them can be simultaneously placed on the deck.
