Delegation of 17th US Coast Guard District arrived to Kamchatka on Monday with official visit to discuss prospects for cooperation in border control and bioresource security with Russian frontiersmen, reported RIA Novosti referring to Russian FSB Frontier Service, Northeast Dept.

"The delegation of 17th US Coast Guard District arrived by C-130 Hercules aircraft is headed by the district commander Rear Admiral Christopher Colvin", said the interviewee.

It is planned to conduct working meetings between the Russian and American delegations, summarizing results of co-operative activities, discussing and signing documents about further cooperation between Northeast Dept and 17th Coast Guard District. RADM Christopher Colvin and his Russian counterpart Gen. Lt. Raphael Daerbayev will sign protocols of further co-operation between their subordinate agencies.

"USCGS Jarvis will call at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski on Sept 21 after joint naval drills with Russian patrol ship Vorovsky", said the interviewee.

The agreement of co-operation in protection of aquatic biological resources within convention area was tied between 17th US Coast Guard and Russian FSB Frontier Service, Northeast Dept in 1996. Partnership between the two frontier agencies helps to prevent fishing violations, establish detailed coordination between patrol crafts securing aquatic bioresources, and monitor customs entries. Also, frontiersmen of the two countries jointly protect the Northern Sea Route between Chukotka and Alaska.

Northeast Dept protects the longest part of Russia's state border – over 20,000 km which is one third of Russian frontier. Boundary guarded by Northeast Dept is washed by the East Siberian Sea, the Bering Sea, the Chukchee Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the Pacific Ocean.
