New submarine survival capsule has been tested
04.10.2010
Lazurit Central Design Bureau (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) has tested new survival capsule for submarines of 3rd and further generations, reports Interfax. The capsule is designed for deep-sea trials and will be installed at submarines to rescue trial teams in case of accidents. Standard capsules for the crew will be present as well.
Standard capsules are capable to accommodate only the sub crew, while numerous shipyard's experts, designers, and acceptance personnel also attend sea trials. According to a source at Zvezdochka shipyard (Severodvinsk, Russia), the capsule was installed in a submarine as additional survival capsule during the tests. As for now, the capsule has been returned to Zvezdochka for final fitting and equipping.
The yard is currently installs venting systems, additional electrical equipment, and decompression systems. The capsule was created under state defense order. Cost of the project has not been specified. Nor it is known when the new capsules will be put into service.
