Investigators search into the fire at PF destroyer Bystry 04.10.2010

Military investigators inquire into the reasons of the fire occurred at Pacific Fleet (PF) destroyer Bystry; one seaman died, two were hospitalized, reported RIA Novosti citing an official from PF Military Procuracy.

The fire ignited at Bystry on Sept 24, said Capt 1 rank Roman Martov, PF press secretary. According to preliminary information, the fire was caused by rupture of fuel pipeline in machinery compartment.

"As a result of fire outbreak three watchmen were hospitalized with various burns. One of the sailors died in the hospital on Sept 28. Two other have been already discharged", said the interviewee.

According to him, the destroyer has kept combat operability and needs only outside repairs of machinery compartment.

"Investigators will find out what was the reason of fire and under what circumstances three sailors were burnt. Probably, the criminal case based on the fact of the death would be initiated", said the representative of PF Military Procuracy.

According to him, all sea cruises of Bystry are canceled for the period of inquiry.
