Known Russian frigate Nadezhda which attended EXPO-2010 in Shanghai arrives to Japanese port Sakaiminato within the framework of training cruise, reported RIA Novosti referring to is the shipowner – Maritime State University.

Frigate Nadezhda sailed off Vladivostok on Sept 20 and arrived to Shanghai on Sept 25. Apart from the crew, there are 110 cadets of Maritime State University who are in training there. They also took an active part in presentation of Russia and the Far East at international exhibition EXPO-2010. On Oct 2 the sailer left China and set a course for Japanese port Sakaiminato.

"Sailing ship Nadezhda calls at Sakaiminato, prefecture of Tottori on Friday. The trip from Shanghai extended over 4 days because cadets practiced sailing so the ship moved slowly. This, however, had no impact on the plans to visit Japan", said the interviewee.

According to him, during their friendly visit to Sakaiminato Russian cadets and the crewmen will visit Japanese schools, meet with prefect of Tottori, and go sightseeing. It is also planned that the sailer will be open for excursions.

"We expect that Russian cadets along with trainees from nautical department of Technical Arts School (Sakaiminato) will attend the city's "Technical Arts Show". In addition, the program includes concert; both Russians and the Japanese will show their musical talents", said the interviewee.

He said that the sailer would stay in the Japanese city for three days and on Oct 11 Nadezhda would head for the homeport Vladivostok.

"Primarily, the visit to Japan is a training call on the way from Shanghai; participation in EXPO-2010 impressed cadets the most", pointed out the interviewee.

He recalled that during the visit to Shanghai Russian cadets along with their future counterparts from China took part in business game "Young view on APEC summit" at the festivity associated with Russia's Day at EXPO-2010 and met with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev at the presentation of the sailer's round-Pacific cruise coming in 2011-2012.

Nadezhda will start a new long-range cruise in spring 2011. The cruise is related to APEC summit to be held in 2012 in Vladivostok. Presumably, the cruise will last over 300 days. Through this time the ship will visit over 20 countries of Pacific region and call at about 25 ports.

Marine biography of sailing ship Nadezhda includes dozens of expeditions and cruises. In 2003 the frigate sailed off Vladivostok for around-the-world cruise associated with 200th anniversary of the first world cruise carried out by Russian seafarers Ivan Kruzenshtern and Yury Lisiansky. Through 14 months of the cruise, Nadezhda had covered about 45,000 nautical miles and visited 30 ports of 20 countries.

Sailing frigate Nadezhda is winner and awardee of numerous international regattas.
