BSF launched an exercise
13.10.2010
Russia's Black Sea Fleet (BSF) warships sailed off yesterday to practice ASW tasks.
According to New Region referring to BSF Information Support Group, among the exercise participants are BSF submarine Alrosa, large ASW ship Kerch, frigate Pytlivy, small ASW ships Suzdalets and Muromets, aircrafts Be-12 and helicopters Ka-27.
At the first stage the ASW ships practiced independent search and destruction of "enemy" submarine with torpedo firing and depth charge release. Submarine Alrosa in her turn carried out anti-ship torpedo firing.
At the second stage antisubmariners are to detect and attack a submarine along with aircrafts and helicopters of naval aviation; the ASW task group will conduct torpedo and missile firings.
Distinction of the current exercise is that there are Ukrainian submariners among the crew of BSF submarine Alrosa.
Four officers from Ukrainian submarine Zaporizhzhia have passed preparatory theoretical and practical course and currently undergo a training period in Alrosa. The purpose is to achieve submarine control skills in underwater and submerged positions, as well as training of torpedo pre-firing activities.
Depending on weather conditions it is planned to complete the sea phase till the week is over.
