Severnoye Design Bureau presented a project of icebreaking patrol ship at Interpolitekh-2010 exhibition in Moscow.
The project is based on technical proposal of icebreaking research vessel also developed by Severnoye bureau and presented early 2009. "Considering growing interest to Arctic, designing and building of armed icebreakers is an indispensable step to protect Russia's interests in the region", said a representative of Severnoye Design Bureau to the Central Navy Portal.
Icebreaking patrol ship will have a displacement of about 4,000 tons; the ship will be capable to sail in 1-meter thick ice with the speed of 2 knots and in 2.5-meter thick patch ice with the speed of 4.5 knots.
The ship's ice-navigational capabilities will make possible to use it in the Northern Sea Route since June till Oct; in freezing non-Arctic seas (the White Sea, the Baltic Sea) and in the Barents Sea, the Bering Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk – all year round. Main propulsion plant is diesel electric; there are two 5.5 MW propeller rudders in the aft end.
