Pacific mariners summarized training year at the Military Council
29.11.2010
Before new training year is started, Pacific Fleet (PF) Military Council convened to assess combat training activities and determine tasks for coming period. Traditionally, the session was opened with award distribution; five PF servicemen were rewarded with medals.
According to acting PF Commander Rear Admiral Sergei Avakiants, all combat training tasks scheduled in 2010 have been executed in full. Pacific Fleet ships have performed over 800 combat drills, including hundreds of missile/artillery firings and mine layings. Coastal defense troops chalked up numerous field drills and over 1,000 parachute jumps.
Participation in strategic exercise Vostok-2010 has become the year's main event for the fleet, reported VestiRegion.ru referring to PF press-service. Along with warships and units of other three fleets, Pacific mariners took part in unprecedented in scale maneuvers which final phase was held in July, 2010 in the Far East under auspices of Dmitry Medvedev, Supreme Commander of the Russian Armed Forces.
Generally, 2010 can be rightfully defined as successful year for Pacific Fleet. Being actively reformed, the fleet has not dropped the speed of combat training. Pacific Fleet won eight nominations in the Navy Commander's Prize contest. Two of prizes were taken by missile and ASW divisions based in Primorsky Krai; missile-carrying and fighter aviation regiments from Sovetskaya Gavan and Kamchatka won other two cups. Honorable awards were also deserved by submariners and coastal missilemen of Kamchatka, special anti-terror unit, and landing ships division.
The current year was full of international events as well. PF warships excellently conducted visits to San Francisco, Hakodate, and Incheon.
Anti-piracy patrol in the Gulf of Aden was also effective; our servicemen released crewmen of Russian tanker Moscow University captured by pirates. Today, the fifth anti-piracy task force led by large ASW ship Admiral Vinogradov sails towards that restless region. PF mariners demonstrated high naval skills and culture during those important activities, and acquired many compliments of their American, European, and Asian counterparts.
The main thing is that Pacific Fleet does sail oceans, launch missiles, and fly in skies, so fits the purpose. All this success is based on hard work of those who elaborate plans and pilot ships, stand on battle bridges and keep watch in battle stations, i.e. full commitment of people who had chosen naval service at the Pacific.
