Yantar shipyard (Kaliningrad) has postponed the keel-laying of the first Project 11356 frigate for Russian Navy to Jan 2011.

Keel-laying of Project 11356 frigate for Russian Navy was postponed to Jan 2011

As reported by PortNews referring to the shipyard's press-service, that was done in coordination with the customer. It was previously reported that frigates for Russian Navy would be constructed simultaneously with same-type ships for Indian Navy (Yantar executes a $1-bln contract for three Project 11356 frigates tied with India in 2007; third of them is planned to be launched in March 2011).
At the same time the shipyard builds two research vessels ordered by Russian defense ministry. The hull of the first one has been already shaped, and basic equipment is being loaded; the second frigate is at hull-shaping stage.
We recall that in Oct 2010 Yantar shipyard won the tender issued by Russian defense ministry for construction of three frigates. Presumable period of the contract execution is 4 years.
Baltic shipyard Yantar was established on July 8, 1945 on the facilities of German yard F. Schichau. The shipyard specializes in small- and medium-size warships and civil vessels, as well as conducting ship repair works. Through 65-year history, the yard has built 154 warships and over 500 civil vessels. Currently, major shareholder of JSC Yantar is governmental company JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation.
