Investigators seek Russian mariners who killed pirates at sea
27.12.2010
Investigators initiated an inquiry into the fact of a video clip emerged in the Internet; the clip displays allegedly Russian naval servicemen shooting at pirate boat, reported Military Investigative Dept on Friday.
Presumably, those were crewmen of Russian large ASW ship Marshal Shaposhnikov who fired at boats with people in the Gulf of Aden which is known for numerous pirate attacks.
"Pacific Fleet (PF) Military Investigative Dept started preliminary inquiry because of the Internet video clip of Russian mariners firing a gun mount and small arms at a boat with Somali pirates. Participants and makers of the video are being currently searched; other circumstances of the incident are also being found out", said the press release.
According to investigators, expert examination of the video clip is going to determine place and date of the filming, possible editing and other technical details.
Earlier on, PF Military Procuracy reported that an inquiry into the fact of the above-mentioned video clip had been started.
In his turn, Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Vysotsky said all those reports of allegedly Russian servicemen executed a pirate boat in the Gulf of Aden are nonsense.
"Our sailors could not shoot anybody at sea, even pirates. That's an absurd", said the admiral.
