SSBN Yury Dolgoruky to join Pacific Fleet 28.02.2011

Newest Russian Borei class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Yury Dolgoruky will be commissioned into Pacific Fleet, said Russian defense minister Anatoly Serdiukov during Sunday's press conference in Vladivostok.

"First Borei will join Pacific Fleet. That's the plan", said Serdiukov.

At present, there are two Borei class submarines almost completed at Sevmash shipyard – SSBN Yury Dolgoruky and Alexander Nevsky. These subs expect when trials of their basic weapon – ballistic missile Bulava – are completed, reportedly late in 2011. Therefore, the first Borei class submarine can be handed over to Pacific Fleet in 2012. Serdiukov withheld comments on the second sub's future.
