Black Sea Fleet (BSF) along with troops of Southern Military District will practice Sochi-2014 security activities during the 3-day headquarter exercise started on Tuesday. "The drill will last till March 24; BSF command and formations will be involved", reported BSF Information Support Group.

According to Black Sea Fleet HQ, purpose of the exercise is to prepare the fleet for anti-terror tasks in southwestern region, shaping an operative task group to cooperate with Ministry of Internal Affairs, FSB, and EMERCOM while maintaining security during preparation and conducting of Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi.

Earlier on, anti-terror exercises Antiterror-2011 were held in Sochi, Adygeya, and Krasnodar region with participation of Alpha special-purpose unit, FSB helicopters, armor vehicles, and dog specialists. Totally, there were over 6,000 men involved.

The goal of those drills was detection and neutralization of "terrorist groups" in complicated operative environment, said General Major Evgeny Potapov, deputy chief of National Antiterror Committee (NAC).

According to him, servicemen of FSB special unit (Alpha) and FSB aviation demonstrated their skills while releasing hostages during counter-terrorist operation held in Sochi administrative building.

Anti-terror drills were conducted by NAC at Olympic assets in Sochi under the presidential instruction since Feb 24 till March 6. They were meant to test counter-sabotage and anti-terrorist capabilities of Olympic infrastructure, reminds ITAR-TASS.
