Russian Navy will be involved in seashore protection of Sochi during Winter Olympics 2014, reported RIA Novosti on Thursday referring to top-ranking representative of Navy Main HQ.

"It is planned to provide the whole range of security activities with participation of warships, aviation, and even military divers", said the interviewee.

According to him, the Navy will be responsible for protection of sea borders. Black Sea Fleet ships and boats (in particular, Novorossiysk Naval Base) will also provide anti-mine and anti-boat defense, i.e. protect the coast from fast-speed boats, the source said.

The Navy will be also responsible for search-and-rescue operations if needed, added the interviewee.

Besides, the Navy is tasked to intensify radar coverage in the Black Sea coastal regions. BSF radar pickets will patrol the sea to detect aerial and surface threats.
