Memorial plaque to Yury Gagarin was opened in Northern Fleet Museum

Memorial plaque in honor of Yury Gagarin was triumphantly hanged on the astronaut's house in Northern Fleet (NF) Naval Aviation Museum located in Safonovo, Murmansk region on Apr 12, 2011.
The plaque opening ceremony was attended by NF commanding officers, servicemen of naval aviation units, Murmansk regional officials, Severomorsk administration, educatees of "Young Sailors Club" and cadets of Severomorsk residential school.
Northern Fleet's acting commander Rear Admiral Andrei Volozhinsky delivered the speech at the solemn meeting. He pointed out that "obviously, Yury Gagarin stood on the top of the nation's efforts to explore the space. Behind his back was immense number of workers, engineers, and designers whose work makes us proud of our Motherland".
When the opening ceremony was over, all attendants could visit the house museum of Yury Gagarin.
Gagarin started his service at Northern Fleet, 169th fighter regiment deployed in Korzunovo (then named Luostari Novoe). Yury Gagarin had spent two years at Northern Fleet. On Dec 9, 1959 Snr Lt Gagarin wrote an application requesting to put him into astronaut candidate list; in a week he was called to Moscow.
In 80's the house of Yury Gagarin's family was brought to NF Naval Aviation Museum in Safonovo; the rooms interior was restored.
