Baltic Fleet warships to pay informal visit to Poland 03.05.2011

Baltic Fleet (BF) task group consisting of small missile ships Geizer and Zyb will pay informal call at Polish port Szczecin in May 6-11 under the flag of Rear Admiral Alexander Nosatov, Baltiysk Naval Base Commander.

The visit of Russian warships is associated with 66th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. During the cruise crews will pay honors to BF mariners died in the WW2. In remembrance of fallen heroes, it is planned to lay wreaths on the sea water. In Szczecin Russian sailors along with Polish counterparts will attend solemn activities related with the Victory Day, give honors to memorials to Soviet and Polish warriors claimed their lives fighting against fascism. Another purpose of the visit is to strengthen Russian-Polish bilateral relations and demonstrate Russian naval ensign.

In Poland Baltic mariners will have sightseeing tour and familiarize with living conditions of their Polish colleagues. Small missile ships Geizer and Zyb will be open for public access.
