In accordance with the Russian defense minister's order named "Colors of Southern Military District Units", Black Sea Fleet (BSF) Coastal Defense Missile/Artillery Brigade and BSF Marine Brigade received new colors and appropriate presidential certificates.

Preparatory ceremony was held in mentioned units on May 4. Nailing to the flagpole is one of the most solemn events in color history; it is conducted on the eve of official handing of a color to a military unit. Cloth is attached to flagpole with special nails. Fifteen best servicemen headed by brigade commander, Hero of Russia Col. Vladimir Belyavsky were honored to take part in the color nailing ceremony.

Sevastopol arch-priest Sergius blessed the brigade's combat color.

Handing of colors to BSF Coastal Defense Missile/Artillery Brigade and BSF Marine Brigade was conducted on May 5.
