Officers of Sakhalin Coast Guard Dept, Russian FSB Frontier Service arrested three foreign fishing vessels for violation of environmental laws on May 4, reported RIA Novosti citing the department's press secretary Natalia Yershova.

According to her, all three ships fly flag of Cambodia.
"First ship - Voyager - was detected off Aniva Cape. Having noticed the pursuit, the shipmaster tried to leave Russian exclusive economic zone. He maneuvered and neither reacted on numerous legitimate demands to stop nor got on contact. The ship stopped only after use of pyrotechnics", said Yershova.
It was found out during inspection that the ship was equipped with radars, navigation systems and other means required for deep sea operations, and had a VHF communicator. There was over 18 tons of live opilio crab on board Voyager, as well as quick-frozen pollack and salmon heads. The shipmaster has no permit for extraction of aquatic living resources in Russian exclusive economic zone.
According to Yershova, the Voyager's shipmaster is charged of illegal extraction of aquatic living resources (clause 8.17/2, RF Administrative Violations Code).
"Other two ships – Phoenix and Scorpio – were arrested with assistance of FSB aviation. During search activities, over 30.5 tons of crab was found on board the first vessel, and over 70 tons of valuable marine products on board the second one. Both vessels had elements of fishing equipment and fragments of sea-bottom flora and fauna. Shipmasters had not fishery permits either", Yershova told.
All three detained vessels are under appropriate examination, added she.
