Draft agreement on Black Sea Fleet movements over Ukraine has been approved
13.05.2011
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin endorsed a Russian-Ukrainian intergovernmental draft agreement about movements of Black Sea Fleet (BSF) in Ukrainian territory.
"Russian foreign ministry and defense ministry are responsible for negotiations with Ukrainian party and signing the agreement on behalf of the Russian government", said the resolution issued on May 6.
The agreement deals with matters related to movements of BSF units in Ukrainian territory beyond their basing sites.
Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovich promised to settle the Black Sea Fleet issue without prejudice to "strategic friendly relations with Russia". Deployment of BSF in Crimea was prolonged on 25 years after 2017 (till 2042) with possible extension.
In Jan 2011 Ukraine and Russia prepared the draft agreement on movements of BSF units in Ukraine beyond their basing sites.
According to Ukrainian foreign ministry, bilateral draft agreement on cooperation in disaster response with use of BSF is almost ready.
