Compass Design Bureau tied agreement with L-3 Communications Valmarine AS 17.06.2011

Russian JSC Compass Design Bureau and Norwegian L-3 Communications Valmarine AS [manufacturer of automated control systems for civil vessels and warships] signed a protocol of intent. These two companies will jointly represent production of the Norwegian firm at coming International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS) to be held in St. Petersburg since June 29 till July 3.

During the exhibition L-3 Valmarine will present newest 4th generation integrated ship control system Valmarine Platinum at the display stand of Compass Design Bureau; this system is designed on the basis of the most up-to-date informational and computing technologies and advanced hardware. Improved information capabilities, high performance and reliability with low maintenance costs make Valmarine Platinum one of the leaders in this market segment.

Partnership between Compass Design Bureau and L-3 Valmarine implies joint deliveries of advanced shipborne automated systems and navigational aids to Russian and Ukrainian markets. According to experts, such cooperation will adapt project and service documentation as well as soft solution and visualization tools to Russian standards; ensure proper crew training, high-grade and effective implementation of guarantee and technical service throughout the whole lifetime of equipment.

As for the director of Maritime Technology Development Center VADM (retired) Vladimir Pepelyaev, such cooperation opens access to Russian market for world up-to-date innovative navigational technologies.

"Today our navy needs the most advanced technologies for safe navigation. L-3 Valmarine is a very competent and globally-demanded manufacturer of integrated control systems including those for large warships. "Moscow design bureau Compass is the first Russian partner of this company, and we are proud to start this cooperation", said Vladimir Pepelyaev.

Established in 2009, Maritime Technology Development Center is the structural division of Compass Design Bureau. The center specializes in final production and services for Russian Navy and civil fleets. Among the recent projects are mobile basing system for surface ships and submarines, and automated electronics overhaul stand Bars. Both of them will be presented at IMDS-2011.

JSC Compass Design Bureau (Moscow) was established in 1947 and is one of the leading designers and manufacturers of onboard navigational aids for Russia's Air Force and Space Force. Nowadays, the company develops and produces all types of navigation systems for military aviation (absolute leader in deliveries) and flight trajectory monitoring systems for all types of aerial vehicles and guided munitions. JSC Compass Design Bureau is unquestionable leader in jamproof systems for GLONASS/GPS.

L-3 Communications Valmarine AS has been working at global market since 1980. Through 30 years of economic activity, L-3 Valmarine delivered and put into operation over 700 automated and navigation systems for wide range of vessels such as cruise liners, supertankers, LNG carriers, various NATO ships including French Mistral class assault landing ships.
