Six Project 11356 frigates will be constructed for Russian Navy, reported Vzglyad referring to a source in Yantar Shipyard (Kaliningrad).

"Some time ago we were informed that the shipyard was to build other three Project 11356 frigates for Russian Navy in addition to the first three ships. In total, Yantar will construct a 6-ship batch of this project", reports Interfax citing the source.

He reminded that Yantar had won the defense ministry's tender for three Project 11356 frigates in Oct 2010. Estimated execution term of this order is 4 years.

In Dec 2010 the yard laid down a keel for the first frigate named Admiral Grigorovich. It is planned that the second hull – Admiral Essen – would be laid down on July 8.

Yantar builds 3 analogous frigates for Indian Navy. This contract gives not only good batch production experience but the opportunity to modernize the yard's capacities.

Project 11356 frigates are multipurpose ships designed under stealth technology. Full displacement is 4,035 tons, speed is up to 30 knots, crew is 193 men. Frigates have heliport and a hangar for one Ka-28 (Ka-31) helicopter.

Yantar Shipyard specializes in construction of warships and civil vessels with launching weight up to 10,000 tons, and ship-repair works. Totally, the shipyard has built over 100 large-size and about 400 small-size civil vessels, and repaired more than 430 naval and civil ships.
