Joint Russian-Korean exercise to be held in Peter the Great Bay 04.08.2011

Patrol ship of South Korea's National Maritime Police Agency (hull number 5001) will pay a visit to Vladivostok on Aug 9, reports RIA Deita referring to press group of Russian FSB Frontier Service, Primorsky Krai branch.

The delegation will be headed by Superintendent General Lee Won Il (Korea National Maritime Police Agency).

On the way to the capital of Primorsky Krai, the South Korean patrol ship will conduct joint tactical drill with Russian colleagues. Active phase will take place in the Peter the Great Bay on Aug 9 when the participants will practice interaction in search of a distressed ship, suppression of illegal activities at sea, rescue of a ship and crew.

Russian side will delegate patrol ships Komandor, Primorye, two fast-speed patrol crafts, aircraft An-26 and helicopter Mi-8 (FSB aviation), special operations team, and patrol ship Shkiper Gek (as a "captured" vessel). Korean party will be represented by patrol ship 5001, her onboard cutter, and special-purpose team.

The drill will be directed by the chief of regional coast guard department Rear Admiral Mikhail Vakin.

When all training tasks are terminated, the ships will call at the Golden Horn Bay and moor at 33rd quay (pier of Pacific Fleet naval base). A solemn welcoming ceremony will take place there.

In the first day Korean delegation will pay courtesy visit to Director of Russian FSB Frontier Service (Primorsky Krai branch) and visit South Korea's Consulate General in Vladivostok.

On Aug 11 sport events will be arranged between crews of Russian and Korean coast guard ships. Sailors will compete in tug-of-war, weight-lifting, and soccer.

Later on that day, locals of Vladivostok will be allowed to visit Korean and Russian patrol ships.

Sight-seeing tours and visits to Vladivostok museums will be provided as well.

South Korean patrol ship will leave port of Vladivostok on Aug 12.
