Defense ministry and Yantar shipyard signed a contract for frigates
31.08.2011
Russian defense ministry and Yantar Shipyard (Kaliningrad) recently signed a contract for construction of Project 11356 frigates under State Defense Order 2011, reported ITAR-TASS referring to a source in Military Industrial Committee at Russian Government.
"The document has become the fourth relatively small contract tied by defense ministry with affiliate companies of United Shipbuilding Corporation", said the interviewee. Earlier on, the ministry had signed one contract with Admiralteyskie Verfi (for construction of non-nuclear subs) and two – with Zvezda Shipyard (Far East).
However, the largest contracts [with Sevmash shipyard] for Yury Dolgoruky class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (Project 955) and Severodvinsk class nuclear-powered attack submarines (Project 885) under State Defense Order 2011 have not been signed so far.
"Painstaking negotiations on these two contracts go on every day both in bilateral format and at interagency commission, but still without effect", added the source.
