Black Sea Fleet (BSF) frigate Smetlivy completes preparation for cruise to the Mediterranean Sea in order to attend the IONIEX 2011 Russian-Italian exercise.

Recently, all ship's systems were tested in different modes at sea, and the crew held teamwork drills.

Joint exercise IONIEX regularly conducted off Italy demonstrates developing cooperation between Russian and Italian navies. Mariners of the two countries conduct tactical maneuvering, inspection and rescue operations, communication drills, and practice repelling of small-size target attacks.

It is planned that the Russian warship would call at a number of Mediterranean ports during the cruise.
