Russian defense ministry and JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) in the presence of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed defense contracts for development of modernized nuclear-powered submarines (projects Yasen and Borei), and for construction of a Yasen-class submarine at Sevmash shipyard.

The contract for development of Project 885M Yasen was signed by defense minister Anatoly Serdiukov and Vladimir Pyalov, director general of Malakhit Maritime Engineering Bureau (St. Petersburg). Project 885M differs from the basic project insignificantly; the major difference is that the updated project does not imply counteragent deliveries from post-Soviet countries.

Defense ministry tied a contract for development of Project 955A Borei with Rubin Design Bureau.

In addition, Serdiukov tied a contract with Sevmash's director general Andrei Diachkov for construction of a Yasen-class submarine. Also, the contract for Project 21300 rescue ship was tied with JSC Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard.
