Russian-Japanese Talks Finished in Navy Main HQ 02.12.2011

Seventeenth annual Russian-Japanese consultation under the bilateral Agreement on Prevention of Incidents On and Over the High Seas signed in 1993 has been finished in Russian Navy Main HQ.

Russian military delegation was headed by deputy Chief of Navy Main HQ Rear Admiral Leonid Sukhanov. The Japanese party was led by Uyama Hideki, Minister-Counselor at Embassy of Japan to the Russian Federation.

It was acknowledged that since the last meeting in Tokyo no incidents had occurred between ships and airplanes. Russian and Japanese delegations marked the exceptional practicability of the intergovernmental Agreement and emphasized its important role in strengthening of mutual confidence between military agencies of Russia and Japan.

The parties agreed that the next 18-th meeting would take place in Tokyo in 2012.

The first consultation on this subject was held in Moscow in 1994, and since that time the parties meet on the annual basis by turn in Tokyo and Moscow.
