PF Task Force Left Seychelles
26.12.2011
In the port of Victoria, naval mariners met with Russian ambassador to Seychelles Mikhail Kalinin, visited the president James Michel, commanders of national armed forces and coast guard, and met with Russian diaspora residing on the islands.
On the last day of the visit, PF mariners along with Seychelles colleagues held a 2-hour demonstration drill near the port of Victoria; they practiced searching and capturing of a vessel suspected of piracy activities. During previous visits of Russian warships to Seychelles, local authorities repeatedly emphasized the relevancy of a threat posed by pirates to the country located next to commercial sea lanes. Ships of the national coast guard regularly repel pirate attacks off the Seychelles coast, so cooperation in anti-piracy is of great importance for this country.
When the drill was over, large ASW ship Admiral Panteleyev left the capital of Seychelles.
