Crews of Northern Fleet (NF) ships will take part in three large-scale international naval exercises in 2012, said NF Commander Vice Admiral Vladimir Korolev.
"In 2012, Northern Fleet is planned to attend the Pomor 2012, Barents 2012, and Northern Eagle 2012 international exercises", reports Western Military District Press Service citing the NF Commander.
NF servicemen along with their foreign counterparts will practice joint maneuvering in different conditions, perform numerous drills, and continue cooperation in anti-piracy and counter-terror activities.
The press service reminded that in 2011 the fleet's ships participated in large international exercises as well.
Large ASW ship Vice Admiral Kulakov took part in the Pomor 2011 joint exercise, large ASW ship Admiral Chabanenko attended the FRUKUS 2011 exercise, and large ASW ship Severomorsk had been on anti-piracy mission for 6 months in the Gulf of Aden. In those long cruises, foreign mariners appreciated high professionalism of Russian naval servicemen.
At present, NF mariners effectively perform their duties within the Russian Navy's interfleet task force in the Mediterranean Sea. Carrier group led by NF aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov started the long-range cruise early Dec 2011.
